brunch in Bethesda-go to Mon Ami Gabi and don't miss the Farmer's Market(7-11-10)

Today we headed out early around 10am to the Bethesda Central Farmer's
Market, which I just can't rave enough about. Sam was tasting
everything in sight and insisted we buy the Chicken & Basil Bangers
and Siciliana Sausages, but the revelation was that he adores PEA
GREENS! We ended up with gorgeous fresh plums, peaches, tomatoes,
cheese, soap samples, Baba Ganoush from Lebanese Taverna and even
Mango Sorbet!
Afterwards we decided to pop in to MON AMI GABI which is at 7239
Woodmont Ave, actually below the lot the market is held on. Mon Ami
Gabi is a DC branch of the wonderful Chicago chain Lettuce Entertain
You, which has some great spots in that city. Mon Ami Gabi is a
definite deal as the portions (so our server Jillian told us) are not
"French bistro" sized. My Asparagus/Pea & Spinach Quiche was so large
I had to take half home. It needed salt and pepper for seasoning and
came with a nicely dressed Frisee salad. Will's Seafood Crepe was no
skimpy one either (at $10.95!)made from whole wheat with large chunks
of shrimp and scallops and the sauce was tasty, not gloppy, thcik and
all poured as as seafood crepes tend to be.
Sam had the requisite Chicken Fingers & Frites, and while the fingers
were good, the frites were not that hot and somewhere this site of a
potato chip; a very odd thin preparation. Apple slices filled out the
plate and he was also given a small "taste" plate with some cherry
tomatoes, haricots verts and julienne carrots. For under $40 with
three non-alcoholic drinks, this was a pretty good deal with good
service and we would definitely go back again! Bravo to downtown
Bethesda fro this brunch!
